FRANKFORT - In a Courier-Journal / WHAS-11 Bluegrass Poll released yesterday, Dr. Daniel Mongiardo holds an 18 point lead over his main Democratic rival, Attorney General Jack Conway, in Kentucky's Democratic Primary for U.S. Senate.
FRANKFORT - Hours after Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Daniel Mongiardo carried out two protests in front of Senator Jim Bunning's federal offices in Louisville and Lexington, as he promised at a Fayette County Democratic Party Dinner Saturday night, Bunning announced he would withdraw his objection to extending unemployment and health benefits for over a million Americans and almost 120,000 Kentuckians.
Mongiardo responded to the news that Bunning is withdrawing his objection, saying, "To quote a baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, ‘It ain't over ‘til it's over.' But if Jim Bunning has indeed come to his senses and agreed to stop blocking an emergency extension of unemployment benefits for Kentucky's unemployed workers, it is a victory for Kentucky unemployed families who are struggling during these difficult economic times. And it is a victory for those who attended our rallies today and for many other Kentuckians who made their voices heard over the past several days."

Despite repeated attempts by Democratic Majority Whip Richard Durbin and other Democrats seeking unanimous consent to extend funding for unemployment benefits for America's unemployed workers, Republican U.S. Senator Jim Bunning objected, blocking the 30-day extension of benefits.
