Jobs and the Economy

As a pro-growth, independent Democrat - jobs is priority one. I will fight for a real jobs plan to jump start our economy and put people back to work. My jobs plan centers around three core segments of our economy in which Kentucky is uniquely positioned to lead - three areas in which I can help make a real difference for Kentucky's working families in the Senate - Energy, Transportation and Healthcare.

Energy

Kentucky is blessed with an abundance of natural resources including coal, natural gas and oil, as well as plentiful farmland and more miles of inland waterways than any other state except Alaska. As a U.S. Senator, I will work tirelessly to support a comprehensive national energy policy that promotes Kentucky's natural resources and protects Kentucky's industries and jobs.

Transportation

Healthcare

The lawyers and politicians in Washington have done a great job in messing up healthcare. As a doctor on the front lines of our health care delivery system for more than 25 years, I know our health care delivery system is broken. We need real, comprehensive health care reform and we need it NOW.

Agriculture

As a product of a working class family from rural Kentucky and having partnered with Governor Steve Beshear whose own roots run deep in the fertile farm lands of Kentucky, I understand the important role our farm families and rural communities play in Kentucky's economy and way of life. This is why I will work closely with Kentucky's diverse farm leaders to address the unique concerns and challenges facing the citizens in our rural communities.
